Alex has been living and working in Aotearoa (New Zealand) for about 6 years now, and has fallen in love with the wild spaces and communities, where he's able to chase his passion of sharing the outdoors with friends, and now guests who come to experience the best of New Zealand. Alex is a Backcountry enthusiast and all round wilderness lover. Whether summiting mountains, snowboarding back down, or reading up on tree knowledge and getting to know the local flora and fauna, it's all part of his happy place!
What's your favorite travel destination?
My favorite travel destination that I've been to would be Nepal, for the stunning mountain landscapes and amazing people.
What's your favorite adventure activity and why?
Backcountry Snowboarding, Climbing, Hiking and then Mountaineering. Getting out in the wild places of the world and challenging myself is really what I love.
What has been your most inspiring adventure experience?
A couple of years ago I spent four days Backcountry snowboarding on the Tasman Glacier in the South Island of New Zealand with friends and it was one of the best experiences. We stayed in Tasman Saddle Hut, it was a full of other inspiring adventurers, and we ended up summiting Hoschetter Dome, which gave us a beautiful view over the West Coast.
What's your favorite Active Adventures trip, and why?
I haven't experienced them all yet but I love the Ultimate South Island Adventure, it's a great blend of activities and variety!
When did you first get the travel bug?
When I turned 18 I solo traveled Nepal and Indonesia and caught the bug pretty badly from that point on!
Why did you want to become a guide with Active Adventures?
I've been looking to get into the guiding pathway for a long time, and I heard through a few different friends that Active Adventures were great to work for, so I thought there was no time like the present and applied. The rest is history!
What destination would you most like to travel to (that you haven't been to yet)?
Japan, for the snowboarding and culture!
Do you have any favorite hobbies or special talents you could tell us about?
Being a weather nerd and using them to help me predict avalanche behavior in the Backcountry. I find snow science super interesting and how it applies to how we move in the mountains.
